Jasmine Crowe “Feed More, Waste Less”

Technology has come a long way and it can help change the world for the better. Jasmine Crowe alumni of NCCU have utilized the way technology is today and is using an app to help out with world hunger. In the video I watched I learned about how wasteful people are with food even though people are hungry in the world. Jasmine created the app with the mission statement “Feed More, Waste Less.” She also challenges people to give food to the people in need. Jasmine hopes to expand her business tom further help out the cause.

Protest Response

Black lives matter movements have made waves ever since they were founded back in 2013. Their pro-black beliefs and morals inspired so many in today’s society especially dealing with police brutality. The Black Panther Party had the same beliefs with helping the black community with the progression of equality and social justice. I fully agree with the demand that was given in the documents. The points that these two groups have set for themselves fit what I see because I feel like black people have been mistreated and need to see change. Also, BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL and people should respect us like everyone else.

In today’s social climate people have been affected by the constant videos of people being killed by the hand of the police. These many different injustices that the system allows to happen and letting the perpetrator get away caused people to protest. Many protests have been peaceful but soon they moved to be more violent and people began to riot and loot. These events challenged the peaceful belief that BLM once stood for.

The social climate is changing rapidly in today’s world and even though there have been a lot of complications in the idea of equality. From the protest to the police brutality the world is hurting and people need to respect each other. I stand with BLM and Black Panther Party there needs to be change and it all starts with the equality of all especially black people.

Black Power Mixtape

The Black Power Mixtape empowered me and it showed me to many other black activist that advocated for equality other than The people thank mostly everybody are familiar of. Being black or white, freedom of speech and the way of life was displayed uniquely in this documentary. Back in the 1960s a white man saw themselves with greater value than the black man in America. Racism ruled at that time so people were treated unfairly and African American people had to fight hard to make change.

The Black Power Mixtape showed how people from other countries seen the true colors of America. The film portrayed white people a manner to unfilter the thing that has been going on at that time. It depicted that whit people used violence to solve their problems. While that was going on it showed the different peace protest that black people were doing at that time. There were many others that played a big part in the civil rights movement that didn’t get much recognition. Now in today’s society there is some similarities because history repeats itself and they are more people now that speak up for what’s right.

Trigger Warnings with Killer Mike Review

On Netflix there is a successful comedian that goes by the name Killa Mike spent 60 hours just getting things from black owned businesses. This episode was an eye opener for me because it shows me how much black people really own in america. The segment opened my eyes immediately because it shows that there are no black owned car company. As he went through day one Mike had to walk around the first day because of the fact he could not drive around. He eventually found a local bike company that was black owned. He couldn’t even eat at certain places because of the fact there was something black owned but there was some type of part of the business had something white owned.

This show brought light to a lot of ideas about black people needing to start owning things. There was an idea that was said in the video saying that black people invested in the community more when we were segregated. It showed that when desegregation happened the black community started investing in other communities than itself.

The episode showed the black community’s efforts to invest in itself. After watching Killa Mike’s experience it opened my eyes to support black owned business and promote other people to start their own business.

A Week In Corn Teen

I just want to start off saying that Rona is very irritating. She change up the whole process of what I had going on. I spent most of my quarantine at my mother’s place and I was bored. At the beginning a normal week would be me waking up early and going to work at my job at the time (FedEx). I would go in and slave on heavy boxes sweating in the cold. I would leave whenever they was ready and then go to sleep. Then I world wake up I continue with the stresses of class work online. By the time I am done with that I eat take a shower, then I go to sleep. I would do that every weekday until the end of the spring. Eventually I just quit and dealt with school work until I moved back on campus.

During this pandemic I have notice you can’t trust everything you hear and people been hearing so many different things. Saying that most of my sources that I believe in is the different social media apps. I look at the different statistic videos and make my own determination on what is true. I say that because there is a lot of things going on in the world and misinformation is being passed around. People believe what they want even if it is wrong so I am going to do the same. This whole pandemic is GHETTO and I want it to leave.

What do you expect out of Intro to Mass Com

I plan to get a lot of useful information out of the class Intro to Mass Communication.  Mass Communication is such a broad topic and it can’t really be contained into a box. Being in this class it may open my eyes to the different stills sets that people use on a day to day basics whether it was personal or occupational. This class will prepare me to expand my horizons on the different media platforms that are highly influential in today’s society.

Walking into this class I am prepared to be challenged with habits that I need to grow out of before I get out of college. I have a big procrastination problem and reading the syllabus I will be able to overcome that problem. The reason I say that is because in the syllabus it says that “If you miss any assignments you will fail.” I am paying for college so I do not want to waste money and if I fail I will be mad because I dont play when it comes to my money.

As I go through the class I plan to engage with the skills that are needed in the world we live in today. I plan to get insight on the entertainment business and further my knowledge on the life that I am planning to enter when I am older.
